CITB

How CITB Works

Businesses who pay the CITB (The Construction Industry Training Board) Levy, which supports the British construction industry to develop the skilled workforce it needs, may be eligible to claim for training.

The levy applies to all employers ‘engaged wholly or mainly in construction industry activities’. In other words, when construction activities take up more than half of your total employees’ time (including subcontractors).

There are also grants and funding available from the CITB which cover day-to-day training, including short courses, qualifications, and apprenticeships.

Small and micro-sized businesses that are eligible for funding up to £10,000 can apply if:

  • You have up to 99 directly employed staff (in addition to yourself/the business owner)
  • You are a CITB-registered employer and up to date with your Levy Returns
  • Any previous project paid for by the Fund has been signed off as complete.

Medium-sized businesses that are eligible for funding up to £25,000 can apply if:

  • You have between 100 and 250 directly employed staff on your payroll
  • You are a CITB-registered employer and up to date with your Levy Returns
  • Any previous project paid for by the Fund has been signed off as complete.
