  • Operate the machine to a minimum standard
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment

  • Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are necessary, and be able to carry them out
  • Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
  • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  • Apply all necessary safety precautions
  • Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the machine operate.

Level: Novice

Duration: 4 Days

The course consists of a theory classroom training day, 2 practical training days and 1 day for technical tests.

During this course you will:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, what potential risks are within the industry and what the operators responsibilities are within the industry
  • Have a working knowledge of the user guide for the particular machine you are using
  • Carry out all end of shift/ shut down routine
  • Conduct all pre-use checks in accordance with user guide
  • Identify and wear relevant PPE for the machine you are using
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks of the machine and the working area
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Locating and identifying  the components of the machine and explain what their functions are
  • Locating and identifying key controls and explain their functions
  • Prepare the machine for use
  • Environmental considerations and surroundings
  • Storage and transport of the machine attachments
  • Explain loading / unloading procedures for machine transportation.

  • CITB health, safety and environment test passed no more than 23 months before the course start date
  • Good understanding of spoken and written English
  • Over the age of 16.
