Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week

The week of 15-21 May 2023 is Mental Health Awareness Week.

The mental health and wellbeing of our staff can have a big impact on our business, and we support all staff by having a dedicated Mental Health First Aider, Megan Williams, here at The Construction Hub Academy.

Megan has been accredited by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) through a specialised training course which equips people with the tools, understanding and confidence to deal with a variety of mental health and wellbeing issues.

The training involves running through different scenarios and uses the ALGEE method which means Approach, Listen, Give support, Encourage them to get help, Encourage others to support.

Given the current climate in the UK surrounding mental health, the likelihood of encountering issues both personally, and professionally is almost guaranteed.

This year, the theme of the awareness week is anxiety. Many people suffer with this illness, so we need to be aware of the signs of anxiety in our staff.

We are suggesting to companies to use this opportunity during the Mental Health Awareness Week campaign to start conversations about anxiety with your teams and highlight the help and support that is available.

For more information, please visit the Mental Health First Aid Wales website or the Mental Health Foundation.
